Where Lilith went!

“No!” I had yelled at the three angels that glowed in their radiant light before me.

The three angels wept.  There iridescent tears fell from eyes heavy with sadness.  They knelt before me in all their glory, begging me to reconcile.  Without words their woeful faces pulled at my heart strings.  “Please...” they pleaded silently.

They lit up the shore, their brightness almost blinding.  The sea glistened as if lit by the asfternoon sun, but it was in fact the middle of the night.

“Never!”  I spat defiantly.

I would not allow god’s messengers to guilt me into submission to the chauvinist pig I had been coupled with.  Pretending to be void of emotion I eyed the angels as unwelcomed visitors.  Inside, I too was mourning the loss of my future generations.

The angels would not relent despite the fact the deal had been made.  They represented healing and life and by not returning, I was everything they fought against.  I could feel myself giving in but the thought of returning to Adam with my tail between my legs, kept me routed to the spot.

“I am a fair woman.”  I compromised.   “If the baby wears an amulet to represent you,   I shall spare its life.”

The angels understood that this was the best solution they would get from me and returned to god to hell him my decision.  I hoped by the time the sun had risen God would see my point of view and reconsider.  Perhaps he would punish Adam and welcome me back as an equal.  Then, I would not have to be the demon of the night, slaying babies in their sleep and spreading disease to men.

I followed a stream to a cave.  Inside, I found a sandy spot and settled down to sleep.

I was watching the moon wane, emptying like my heart, when the cave filled with a bright light.  I sat up excitedly, expecting to see three angels informing me I had been forgiven.  As my eyes adjusted to the light, I saw just one angel.  His wings were bigger than the three that had visited me earlier.

“Who are you?”  I asked.

“Samael,”

There was something dark and seductive about him.  If god had made Adam in the image of this angel I may have agreed to lie beneath him.  Worshipped him even!  His presence captured my heart and willed me into submission.

“God has made Adam a new woman named Eve.”  Samael told me.

Turmoil of emotions erupted inside me.  Tears stung my eyes as I realised I had lost and my punishment was final.  This had been my cursed choice.  Samael knelt down beside me where I slept and lifted my chin up.

“I admire your strong spirit, possessed like a demon that speaks out against gods will but the most beautiful of all the living creatures.”  Hypnotised by his dark eyes that shone out despite the brightness that surrounded him, he drew me near for my first kiss – something Adam had never had the balls to do.  As he pulled away, I gasped.  My lips quivered and my whole body ached for more.  His deep musical voice spoke again, “I have a plan my love.”

And the next day, I found myself coaxing a young naive woman to follow me to the forbidden fruit, where Samael waited, disguised as a snake.
